The Townshend Act
Charles Townshend had to face the hard challenge of taxing the colonies. he was also known as "champagne charlie" because he always made speeches after drinking champagne.
A Boston patriot named Samuel Adams led the opposition to the Townshend acts. Adams was gifted at stirring up protests through his speech and writing. Adams wrote a letter to Townshend Acts that was sent to every colony. The letter said, duties violated the colonists rights as boycott British goods. Women were very important in making the boycott work because they did most of the shopping. Lord North was a new leader of the British government. He was described as a heavy looking man. He embarrassed his supporters by taking naps in the Parliament. But he was good with numbers, and could see that the Townshend duties were a big money loser. page by: Mauricio Chavarria
